University students & refugee children

Over the span of the exhibition students from the Sunway University enjoyed viewing the various creations of Chinese art through images of landscapes plants and animals.  Father Tham explained, “for the Chinese, including the Emperors, calligraphy has always been the highest and most precious form of art. I find inspiration in calligraphy and carving seals. I find them more challenging. Although they are simpler, the simpler something is, the harder it is. When something is complicated, you can cover it up but, when it’s simpler, it’s technically harder.”

Father Tham also provided some local refugee children a brief Master Class on the basics of calligraphy and explained to them how he uses artistic mediums to express his love for God, “I started to create more on the Christian faith but in a Chinese way, and I feel that bridge is quite original.”
The exhibition was a wonderful opportunity for Fr Joseph to share the Catholic faith with the local community. Our heartfelt thanks to Father Tham, Joan Mahony and Sunway University for helping support our mission!
